From hot springs, majestic mountains and waterfalls, to deserts, sands, and red rocks, you and your partner will have zero issues finding a super rad place to honeymoon in Utah. Whether you want adventurous, romantic, or luxury, it is literally all RIGHT HERE in my home state of Utah.

The landscape in Utah is SO diverse that you can have the ultimate honeymoon that looks and feels epic and dreamy. Because of the diversity of landscapes in Utah, you can visit Utah any time of year. If it’s the middle of winter, plan to honeymoon in the Southern part of the state. Or head straight into the snow and go to Park City to stay at a fancy resort and spend time skiing the snow covered mountains.

The other cool thing about planning a Utah honeymoon is that there are plenty of options for each different type of budget. If you are wanting luxury, you will have no issue finding some amazing resorts (ahem, Amangiri), but if you are wanting it simple and budget friendly you can explore Utah road-trip-style or spend half of your time camping. There are plenty of places that you can pay to get into or go see, but there are also some incredible landscapes, hot springs, and hikes that cost you nothing other than the gas to drive there.

Keep reading for my top 5 places I would recommend as you plan your romantic getaway for your Utah honeymoon. Sure you can jump on any traveler websites and they’ll list some stuff out for you, but this is coming from a Utah local who is giving you the same recommendations I give to all my friends that travel in from out of state.

1 | Heber City, Utah

I highly doubt you will see this on any Utah Honeymoon location blog post but I had to list this one first because it is such a central location to all kinds of different types of outdoor activities, and places to see and eat. Heber is only an hour from Salt Lake International Airport. In Heber you are only 30 minutes away from Park City (you’ll pass through Park City on your way), and anywhere from 10-45 minutes away from lots of great locations. It does get cold in the winter so if you are wanting to spend a lot of time outside, the best time to plan to be here is anywhere from late spring to fall.

One of my top recommendations for anyone that is in the Heber area is the Crater in Midway. It’s only about a 10-15 minute drive from Heber. This place is insane and easily one of the coolest experiences I have ever had. It’s also super affordable. Imagine swimming in a cave with moss-covered walls where the water is a rich, deep blue, and is warm. That’s the Crater. If you don’t have a gopro or a waterproof camera, you’re going to want one. Also, you do need to make reservations, so make sure to plan ahead.

The next place near Heber is Deer Creek Reservoir and it’s also only about a 10 minute drive to get there. They’ve got all types of rentals, from motorboats and jet skis, to kayaks and canoes. It is a state park so there is a small fee to enter. You could easily spend an entire day here playing on the water, eating a picnic under the trees, and watching the sunset from The Lakehouse Restaurant. The restaurant does have seasonal hours so you’ll want to look into this and plan to make a reservation.

Provo Canyon is only about a 15 minute drive and has lots of great outdoor adventure options as well. You can walk up to a popular waterfall called Bridal Veil Falls. It’s really simple to get to and does not require anything more than sandals. You can hike to surrounding waterfalls if and also float the river on tubes or with kayaks. A lot of people really like to go up Sundance towards Timpanogas where there are a lot of hiking trails as well. This is a cool little spot to get an airbnb if you want to stay at a place that is nestled in the mountains.

While staying in Heber, it is fun to hop over to Park City. Main Street is really cool there and the outlet mall is fun to shop at as well. If you go to Park City, MAKE SURE THAT YOU GO TO FRESHIES AND GET THE LOBSTER ROLL. You’ll thank me later. The lobster grilled cheese there is bomb also.

Another day trip you can make is to head to Saratoga Springs. This is a natural hot spring sitting out in the middle of nowhere near Utah Lake. It doesn’t cost anything and the setting is GORGEOUS. While you’re in the area, stop by 5 Star BBQ for the best smoked brisket and chicken you will ever have.

If you were really hoping to see the Salt Flats while you were in Utah, I would recommend flying in earlier in the day and driving out to them before coming to Heber. It’s quite a drive and out of the way so you definitely want to go there while you’re close to it and not trying to rush back to the airport. You could plan to stay your first night in a historical downtown Salt Lake Airbnb and head to Heber the next day.

2 | Park City, Utah

If you want a really epic winter experience, Park City is the place to visit. Winter time here is really popular so you will pay higher rates. It would be worth trying to book your stay to be on weekdays and avoid the winter holidays to get the best prices. The resorts in Park City are really high end and offer a luxurious experience. A lot of them have a ski in and ski out feature where you literally walk out the door and there are the ski slopes. Not into skiing? Hit up Woodward for some serious tubing hills. If you’re wanting something a little more intimate and cozy, go for an airbnb with an outdoor hot tub. Snowflakes falling while you’re nice and warm in the hot tub is MAGICAL.

3 | Under Canvas in Moab, Utah

Moab is a popular Utah elopement or wedding location. It’s one of the most popular destinations in Utah for a reason. You’ve got wide open deserts with red rock formations and slot canyons and when you climb up higher you can see a view of the valley that is stunning. Moab is a perfect place to honeymoon and explore and if you planned your wedding or elopement here, then it’s really convenient to stay in the area. And if you’re someone who likes the idea of camping, but doesn’t really love the idea of roughing it, Under Canvas is a happy medium with tents that have bathrooms and showers. You can spend part of your time just in the camp area with their complimentary camp activities and the rest of your time exploring Moab through hiking, 4-wheeling, and horseback riding. There are plenty of options to keep you busy in Moab and then you get to come back to your campsite with luxury bath products, West Elm furniture, and your campfire to cook smores. You can’t go wrong choosing this as your honeymoon experience.

4 | Road Trip

The best thing about road-tripping in Utah is that you get to experience a sampling of the variety of scenery that Utah has to offer. You can design your Utah road trip to look however you want. Spend a couple days camping and get an airbnb for a couple of the days. You can take it at your own pace and customize it to suit whatever kind of budget you have available for your honeymoon planning. Make sure you bring your “good camera,” you know, the one with the nicer lenses. If you don’t have one maybe a friend has one you can borrow, or you can rent one. Or if there is a particular location you want some killer photos, hire a local photographer or one that is willing to travel. Like I said, you can customize your trip and pick and choose where to spend and create the kind of experience you’re going to love looking back on over and over. Here are a couple simple road trip itineraries that you could start building your experience off of. Make sure to look up food places in each location so you aren’t missing out there!

Utah Road Trip Itinerary 1

Salt Flats, Park City, Midway, Moab

Fly into the Salt Lake Airport, get your car rented and head out to the Salt Flats. You’ll want to head out to . It’s a bit of a drive and a little out of the way since you drive out to the Salt Flats Rest Area Westboutnd, but SO worth the drive. The Bonneville Salt Flats really are a location unlike any other and one that needs to be experienced in person. GO THERE. Next head into Park City where you can rent an airbnb, check out Main Street, some local hiking trails, and grab the lobster roll at Freshies for lunch. Reserve a spot to swim at the crater in midway. Then hit the freeway and head down to Moab. Give yourself a full day for each of these, and a couple days for Moab then head back to the airport. P.S. If you see any Cache Valley cheese curds at any of the gas stations you stop at, definitely buy a bag. They make the perfect road trip snack.

Utah Road Trip Itinerary 2

Salt Flats, Sand Dunes at Little Sahara Recreation, Mystic Hot Springs, St. George

Notice how the Salt Flats are included in both of these trips? They are that cool. This trip will lead you through Provo (hit up 5 Star BBQ on your way through) and your next stop will be Little Sahara. You can ride ATV’s, or just run and jump and play in the sand and end the day with a campfire and hot dogs and s’mores. Next stop is Mystic Hot Springs. Soak in warm mineral water in vintage bathtubs that have formed mineral deposits on them over time. It’s an amazing place. Be sure to book a reservation for this. Hit the road and head to St. George. Be sure to stop at The Creamery in Beaver, Utah. Excellent ice cream and lots of good food and has a fun shop. Once you come into St. George you have got multiple options of places to visit. You’ll want to give yourself a few days here to really experience as much of St. George as is possible. See the below paragraph about St. George for all of the things to see + do, plus places to eat.

5 | St. George, Utah

St. George is one of my favorite places in Utah. It gets ROASTING HOT in the summer, so if you’re going to be there, plan accordingly. Ideally you will want to visit St. George in the Spring or Fall. You can visit in the winter too though and it will be significantly warmer than anywhere else is Utah. The same typically goes for Moab. St. George is really close to Zion’s National Park which is a tourist attraction for a reason. It’s full of giant red rocks, cliffs, waterfalls, with a scenic drive and hikes from simple to more advanced. Another place to visit when in St. George is Snow Canyon State Park. It is also full of amazing rock formations that you can climb around on, some sand dunes, and also walking trails. I never miss Snow Canyon when I’m in the area. In a nearby town called Hurricane is Sand Hollow. The water here is a gorgeous deep blue and so so refreshing in the heat. A great evening activity after you’ve been on your feet all day adventuring and exploring is Tuacahn. It’s an outdoor theatre that offers a variety of different plays with lots of yummy treats to enjoy during the performance. It is set against backdrop of a giant red cliffside making the experience that much more surreal. 10/10 recommend.

Now, I’m going to give you a little insider advice. Plan a massage at St. George Day Spa (trust me you’ll need it), and reserve dinner at the Cliffside Restaurant. You can also book a hotel at the Cliffside Inn and wake up with a view of the entire city every morning.

My last and probably best tip for when you’re honeymooning in St. George, is to pick up the Sour Cream Lemon Pie from Croshaw’s Pies. Make sure you get there when they first open because they sell out within a couple hours of opening. If you don’t get a pie here, you haven’t lived. Food is half the travel experience and and not something you want to miss out on!
